Life at the 'seaside' - which, in this context, meant the shore of the Sea of Galilee - came to St Michael's in the middle of August, during a Holiday Club entitled Seaside Rock, telling the story of Saint Peter (aka Simon, aka Rocky) and his life with Jesus, from the first miraculous catch of fish to the last.
From its action-packed theme song that had young and old on their feet bopping to the news that "Jesus Christ loves you...and you...", through to all sorts of beach and fish related activities, thirty young people from across the parish learned in an enjoyable and fun way the implications of building your life on the Rock of Jesus' teachings.
One daily highlight was the visit from Peter himself - the first 'rock', who told the young people what it was like being called to follow Jesus. As well as hearing about the major parts of Simon Peter's story (including such awful moments as the time he betrayed Jesus three times), the listeners even heard about the most miraculous cup of tea he'd ever had (with apologies to Mark 1:31!).
The children all had great fun. The many helpers (without whom nothing would have been possible, and to which the parish is indebted) also had great fun. Even the parish priest had great fun, when he got to welcome 'Simon Peter' to the parish on the last day!
