Ss Peter & Paul, Kettering

Our Bells

Ss Peter & Paul is proud to have one of the newest rings of twelve bells in the country. After an extensive campaign of fund-raising (which is not quite complete!) in the summer of 2004, our old bells were removed, and a brand new set of twelve were installed.

The bells were cast at the Whitechapel Foundry in London, but much of the work in installing them in the tower was undertaken on a voluntary basis by our own ringers, as you can see in some of these photographs.

On a Sunday in August, all the bells were lined up down the centre aisle of the church to be blessed, before being winched up the tower one by one and put in their place.

At the end of the following month, they rang out in worship for the first time, after being dedicated by the Bishop of Peterborough.

Each of the bells has its own dedication; pictured below is the Parishioners' Bell, paid for by members of the parish.

Ringing bells is a complex but very enjoyable art; there is a practice session every Thursday evening, and the bells ring for the 1030 service every Sunday morning, and other special services during the year. If you would be interested in finding out more about becoming a bell-ringer, please contact Mrs Pat Edkins, our Tower Captain.
