John Smith’s Ordination | Mum and daughter baptized by bishop | Seaside Rock | Shocking Crib Scene | Critical Mass at St Michael’s | Baptisms Galore | Children admitted to Holy Communion | Rectory Baby |
A large crowd gathered at the 1030 celebration on September 2nd to celebrate the double baptism of Sarah Irons and her daughter Laila. It is unusual to see the baptism of a baby and parent at the same time, but this special celebration allowed us to see the rite of baptism at its fullest.
This was because we delighted to welcome Bishop Frank, who presided at the service, and who not only took great delight in baptizing both Sarah.....
and then baby Laila....

...he also confirmed Sarah at the font, only seconds after her baptism.
Normally, adults who have come to faith and church membership are confirmed, and, where necessary, baptized at the Easter Vigil each year - a wonderful and dramatic service, but not well suited to baptizing infants. So it was a delight to find a way to have mother and daughter baptized together, and have the full meaning of Christian initiation shine out through the service.

Anyone interested in learning more about baptism and confirmation, for themselves or for a child, would be most welcome to contact the Parish Priest.
