Ss Peter & Paul, Kettering

A bit more about Robert

Robert comes from Peterborough but has many family connections in and around the Kettering and Wellingborough area. Although an Engineer by trade, he changed his direction in life when he was accepted for training in the church. Whilst training he worked for a year at the Queen Victoria Seamen’s Rest in London’s Docklands (a hostel for retired and redundant sailors) before being sent to Australia as a Chaplain’s Assistant with The Mission to Seafarers. After a year he was appointed as a Lay Chaplain and worked in France and Australia over the following 12 years – including 5 years as Secretary to the Australian National Council of the Mission. During this time he continued his studies through distance learning and was ordained in Hobart whilst Senior Chaplain in Tasmania, Australia. He returned to England in 2003.

Robert maintains his passion for mission based ministry and is connected with a number of activities including some outside the normal sphere of the church. As well as involvement with local schools, such as Wren Spinney Special Needs School, Robert is involved with organisations such as Kettering’s Welfare Rights Advisory Service, the YMCA’s drop-in centre and hostel, the Pensioners’ Parliament, local uniformed groups including the Air Training Corps., and other groups closer to the fringe of society.
